Parent and Child Together North East (PACTNE) is an innovative supported housing charity which is committed to assisting vulnerable families to stay together and thrive.
Formed as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in October 2016 PACTNE has just one objective which is:
“To promote and preserve good health among parents and children living in the Tees Valley and surrounding areas, in particular but not exclusively by providing supported accommodation, support, advice, training and therapeutic services to young persons and adults who are pregnant or parenting children and who are made vulnerable by homelessness, need, hardship or distress.”
Many families in distress or crisis lack the personal resources, skills or extended family support needed to stabilise and as a result, children are affected adversely and might ultimately need to become Looked After by the Local Authority. Our goal is to prevent this from happening, whenever possible, by providing a comfortable home, intensive support, relevant group and individual training, and where appropriate counselling for families who are struggling for a variety of reasons. These may include temporary or ongoing physical or mental health challenges, homelessness, financial crisis, physical or learning disabilities or difficulties, domestic violence, inadequate parenting role models, and the after effects of previous life style choices. This list is far from exhaustive and PACTNE will consider referrals for any family who can be described as vulnerable and in need of supported accommodation.
Parent and Child Together North East (PACTNE) provides a high standard of supported accommodation for these vulnerable families. Based on the outskirts of Darlington in a rural location, the charity occupies a three acre site on which six log cabins have been built. Resident families can stay for up to two years before transitioning back into the wider community.
